The transmitter works anywhere. The distance is determined by the material it must go through. A brick or stone wall is going to be more difficult. A clear line of site helps the range. Going thru a raised window is going to be easier than thru a wall. It will go thru various obstructions, it just depends. Hope this helps. I have two different sets and they work well.

I have had a transmitter on my cable box in my living room and I've successfully connected to it from my garage about 30 feet distance between the two (and connected from my entry way outside at about 25 feet). I have one wall and some metal cabinets between and didn't have any issues. Much more than that may get a bit tricky.
