• No software needed. It will transmit whatever is on your laptop screen.

• The question I would have is are you transmitting or receiving from the laptop. If you are transmitting, then whatever is on your laptop screen will be transmitted to the remote TV. On most laptops the HDMI port is output only, so you cannot use the HDMI port as an input. There are a few that do allow that, but the ones I have seen have two HDMI ports, one for input and one for output. Check to see if your laptop allows input on the HDMI and I think that will answer your question.

• This thing works well, easy to install. You can basically bluetooth it and it works right away.
