You will need an empty pod. They sell those and ones with Herbs here at BestBuy.

Yes you can use your own seeds if you wish and it will still grow.

You can use your own seeds. Just be sure they are not GMO and are designated for the present growing season. Otherwise you will not get germination. Don't use climbing varieties or heavy producing varieties like watermelon, cantaloupe, etc. , stick with small varieties like cherry tomatoes, kale, bunch lettuce, herbs etc. Remember you still must fertilize and monitor the water level. It is wise to use their fertilizer to avoid pump problems.
