this is not a cable box and of course will not pick up anything if connected to a paid cable service. It must have an over the air antenna to pick up local broadcast channels...Even then you may still not get all your local stations...got to keep moving the antenna around like in the good old days.

It will not work on a 'cable line'. It's designed to be hooked to an antenna to receive over-the-air digital broadcast signals only.
