Echo responds if the wake word is spoken first (Alexa is the default but can be renamed Echo or Amazon). It can play music, or interact with smart devices like thermostats, lights, electrical outlets and so on.

It only records your interactions with it and not a voice recording but you can go in settings and view all the questions you asked and the answers. It's not recording stuff it shouldn't
