My advice would be to check YouTube. There are several videos that will walk you through getting your Echo set up very easily

To setup the device join the "I'm a Echo" wifi. You'll see it listed under available wifi network. After you do thats you use the Alexa app on your smartphone (you /have to have a smartphone/. It's pretty self explanitory once you get past the "join the stupid wifi on your phone and have the stupid Alexa app" part.

Its simple. You plug it in and download the Alexa app on your phone. Once the app is downloaded follow the set up prompts in the settings
