I don’t know if you can just use it as a Bluetooth speaker without connecting to the app. I would use the app to get the full features of what it can do.

When they're synced they all go off at once, so each of mine has a different awake-name and so each can be used separately . . . if one of us is in the office at the back of the house, one of the other of us can use the one in the living room. It's worked best for us. I have needed the app each time I've set up an Echo and couldn't get any of them to work without using the app. So yes, you need access to the app, and it needs to be your own app ... you can't use someone else's. I don't know anyone who has tried to use an Alexa device or Echo without wi-fi and can't speak to that, except to say I don't know how it could work without internet. When my internet goes down, my Echoes don't work. They say "cannot connect." I don't have information about just using a dot as a Bluetooth speaker. Sorry, but hope some of this helps.

This is what will tie it to your Amazon account and give you access to your purchased content and subscriptions. It does need to be connected to WiFi to be set up and use the smart features it offers. You can just use the device as a Bluetooth speaker once it has been set up. I hope this helps. Have a great day!
