Depends on how loud you want to shout your commands and questions! 8^) I live in a 2 bedroom condo and I have 3 devices (1 in each bedroom - near the bathrooms and 1 in the kitchen/dining room area). Super handy when you need/want hands free operation. Actually, the microphone array in the E-Dot is pretty sensitive but not enough to reliably pick up commands from another floor. Another perk is you get a really nice intercom system. Furthermore, you can give commands on one to operate devices that may be configured in another room (e.g., turn off bedroom lights while I'm in the kitchen - this assumes you have a device or lightbulb that can be controlled by Alexa).
