It can be done but be careful. For example. My dog is trained and does not ever have a problem. She got sick one day and we were not home, Roomba ran over some dog doo and spread it along the carpet and also thru the interior of Roomba. Roomba will never run again. We had to go and buy a brand new one. Now we only run Roomba when we are home
