• Not 100% sure, but I believe you need Amazon Prime. I do know that if not needed, you are missing out on a lot of capability with it. The skills are commands Alexa understands with other apps. Using an app, Alexa can be programmed to perform actions based on a specific command. I say Good Morning to mine and she turns nightlights off, other lights on, gives me the weather and tells me what’s on my calendar for the day.

• Alexa echo dot can do just about anything, from making phone calls , to play your music and even turn on/off lights. For the on/off lights you will need a smart plug. You will also need to download the Alexa app on your smartphone.
