- Answer The Amazon Echo dot doesn’t require a hub to operate. If you’re referring to the SengLed hub for the smart bulbs, then yes, you need a smart bulb hub to operate the smart bulbs. The Echo Dot or any Alexa enabled device (eg Android phone app, iPhone Alexa app, etc) will work with the Sengled hub

- Answer No. You just need a wireless Internet source. Of course some commands are only capable with subscriptions. You can't have Alexa play a library you are not subscribed to, such as, Prime Music, or Spotify, but Alexa will give thousands of weather, sports, facts, shopping, and entertainment responses with no subscription required. New features, (skills) are added on a regular basis, (whisper mode, for example). She tells corny jokes, and sings holiday songs plays games, rolls multi-sided dice and more at no additional charge.
