A:AnswerYou may want to check with the staff at the nursing home. Setup is fairly simple.
Download Alexa app
Sign in to Amazon account
Add new device in Alexa app
Specify WiFi login
There are also some advanced options that you can set up. The intended usage of the device may require advanced settings.
A:AnswerGenerally a smart phone would be the recommended method of set up. WiFi is required as well as an Amazon account. This does not connect to a pc physically, but you may be able to set up using a PC with Bluetooth, but that is just for initial setup.
A:AnswerI have four dots, all bought at different times in different places. They have different personalities, but when I ask any one of them to put music on repeat or to play continuously, it goes a long time before shutting down (which I was told is a safety feature). One of our pets recently had surgery and had to be isolated from the other pets, so in setting up a space for her I set the dot in that room to continuously play soft rock music ... twelve hours later it was still playing. Note: A lot of way a dot functions seems to have to do with how you word your request (yes, I am very serious).
A:AnswerFirst, yes, they have to stay plugged in to work. Second, I have four dots (they are NOT synced) in different areas of the house so they can be used separately. I thought that if I did NOT sync them they could be used separately by different family members. They answer questions, etc., separately, just fine, but if any of us tries to play MUSIC while another dot is playing music one of the dots says something like "Music is being accessed by another device; would you like to use this device INSTEAD?" It's frustrating, but we haven't found a solution and the Amazon tech people have given us conflicting information. So no, music is the one sticking point. You'd have to have each dot hooked up to a separate account.
A:AnswerI don’t know if you can just use it as a Bluetooth speaker without connecting to the app. I would use the app to get the full features of what it can do.
A:AnswerI have four dots, bought at different times. So I've contacted Amazon tech support umpteen times over the past couple of years. In theory, having a computer or a smartphone shouldn't make any difference, as long as you have the Amazon app up and running ... the app seems to cause more problems than anything else. So again, according to Amazon, if your mom has a Kindle Fire, she should be able to download the app with no problem and use a dot or dots just fine. I really hope this helps!
A:AnswerYes. I have four, and I don't want mine synced so someone in the office can use that dot while someone in the living room can ask different questions or whatever. But you can sync up all of your dots. Go to your Alexa app and access settings. And if you get stuck (the app isn't the best), ask one of your dots what to do. Worst case? Contact Amazon Alexa tech support.
A:AnswerYou can set up reminders, alarms, lists, etc. and it all works well. We have notifications set for our own meds, for moving the cars for street sweeping, for making calls, etc. The trick is downloading the Alexa app. I ended up buying the cheapest Fire Tablet because although we have an office set up here, and we all have computers and smartphones, the only way we can access that Alexa app is through one of Amazon's own devices. It's a pain in the neck to have to use a special device just for the app, but if you just get a cheap, refurbished Fire Tablet (mine's about the size of a smartphone and cost almost nothing), you can download the Amazon Alexa App and should be able to set up anything you want.
A:AnswerWe have four dots in different parts of the house. I actually have one set up in world's smallest, coldest, dampest bathroom on Earth. When someone wants to shower in there, the heater goes on, so then it's hot/damp/etc. all at the same time, and it still works just fine. So I don't see any problem putting one in a garage. (Haven't tried it, but hey, I hope this helps.)
