Yes, it does have the ability to adjust to night mode. It shifts to an orangish color.

The newer, smaller, Kindle Fire has a night time mode called Blue Light.
I have not seen a feature to change the text color, this is the back light/ page color.
They claim it is easier on your eyes, to me, it is more yellow and takes about 3 or 4 minutes to adjust when it changes while you are reading.
The feature is totally customizable, you pick the time it comes on, goes off and the degree of blue screen. You may also turn it off.
