“Will using an SD card take the table off of child mode?If so, what does that mean for me?If I add movies would it be to the SD card then would I have to use an app to watch those movies on the tablet? Don't have wifi on the road, this is when I need it.”

Adding a Micro SD card will not take you out of kids mode. You can download movies to the card and watch them when you are not connected to Wifi. There are several streaming apps that allow for downloading content to the tablet for offline viewing.
