It says it in the packaging, but apparently Amazon wont honor it if you didn't buy it from Amazon. Dealing with this right now actually.

While I couldn't find a definitive answer on the BestBuy website, Amazon says (https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201829600) that "if you've purchased a Fire Kids Edition or Fire HD Kids Edition tablet, you'll automatically receive one year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited." I don't know if that applies only to tablets bought from Amazon directly. Hope it helps.

This only includes the particular services associated with free time. You are still able to have a separate child profile to limit what content the child is exposed to.
