“What is the usb port for on the fire box, can it be used for audio out to a receiver?”

I don't know about a receiver but I use it for a wireless keyboard which really comes in handy since the amazon remote buttons are very minimal/limited.

It is used for debugging. It will not work to stream audio out of the box. However it is possible, just not easily without knowledge of USB debugging.

It's for an external storage device such as a flash drive if you want extra storage space... I don't know if it can be used for audio output. Mine is connected to TV via hdmi cable.
