Hello jmgc! Yes you do need to set up a free Amazon account if you don't have one already in order to use this device. Amazon Prime is not a mandatory service to subscribe to for this. There are a number of benefits you get by signing up for Amazon Prime including access to Prime Video which comes with a huge library of free content along with Amazon Prime Original shows and movies. But you can use this device with most other services and there is a plethora of free content that you get access to automatically. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I believe you do need an Amazon account to use the Fire Stick but unless you decide to pay for Amazon Prime it won't cost you anything. I have always had Amazon Prime so I just had to sign in.
