• Hi Gramps, There is no membership fee for the Kindle E-reader devices. You do have options to download books that are free, and you can also look on your local library's website to see what offerings they have for checking out e-books. You will also have options for Kindle books through subscription services like the Kindle Store as well as Audible. When you set up your device you will get a free trial for these services as well, so keep and eye out for that. Hope some of this info is helpful.
