Hello ProStudent! Thanks for your question on the Kindle Paperwhite E-Reader. Books can definitely be deleted after you're finished with them which would free up that space. The size would just matter for people who would like to store and use many books at a time or have quick access to them so you do not have to download them every time you want to access them again. Many people like to carry full libraries on their device and many store only 1 or a few books at a time. I hope this answers your question and that you have an optimal day!
