Yes! You can play with the online membership and visit other islands. You use the airport and shortly into the game (you will need to complete a few tasks first) you’ll be able to start flying or allow others onto your island! You can play local play which doesn’t require online but you must be near each other console to do this, or online play to play with others not close. You can also become friends with them in the game to send mail and gifts to them through online connection.
