Yes you can use the right ear bud only for phone calls. I've used only the right while talking with anyone. I would try paring the earbuds again to the device and give it a go. Hopefully it should work

You can do the right ear without left. However, if you want to use left ear only, you would need to read the instruction on how to get it working.
