• Yes turn it on or off set temp and time tells when it's running or off.

• Yes you can; per the Anova Website: "Within the Anova app, you can cook remotely, meaning you can set your time & temp from virtually anywhere. To take advantage of this feature, you'll want to ensure your cooker is connected to the app first." It has worked for me but I recommend getting familiar with the app before trying.
