No HDMI input. It is a plug & play comes with its own USB cable. You have to use its cable it comes with (I tried other cables). Powered through the cable via laptop. It's fine if laptop has more than 1 USB port. I have a surface pro with only 1 USB (had wireless mouse using port). Solved issue with a Bluetooth mouse and dedicated port to monitor. It's fine for whenever I need a second monitor. Hope this helps.
