Thank you for your interest in our products. Unfortunately you likely would not get 12 hours of runtime if the unit isn't plugged back into utility. If it is just the unit itself you would get around 5 hours of runtime. Also we recommend leaving the unit connected to utility so it will continue to keep charged. If you disconnect from utility and let the battery discharge multiple times it will shorten the lifespan of the UPS.

Yes you can. Unplugging it from the wall is no different from losing power to your house.
