I recommend at least a case for it especially one that closes and turns your iPad in sleep mode. I bought the Speck folio case and it has been great for my use. I didn't buy a glass screen protector especially since the folio case protects the case, I also got apple care so that did play a part into why i didn't invest in a glass screen protector.

10.2 7th generation. I did put a plastic shield on the screen and have always purchased a protective case for all of my Apple products. I don’t think you have to do this, it ya personal preference.
