“Could I use the same email address I have on my computer on my iPad”

Yes you can. The IPad will easily connect to most major email providers, Gmail, AOL, yahoo, outlook, etc just by adding your email address and password. You can sync it with any other email provider by providing the POP or SMTP info, which you can find out by Googling it.
