I believe the newer I pads have cellular services, but I think it needs to be connected to your own phone. That way if your phone or I pad aren’t near you, you can use whichever one is closest but it will ask you if you want to have your phone connected to the I pad. If you do you’ll also receive whatever text messages you get from your phone onto the I pad. So no the I pad can’t have its own number.
