I would say yes if your using it for research, notes, art based learning, some light creativity/production, and for sheer portability. Honestly I would think the MacBook in any form would better suit a college student. With the battery life almost doubled and the full power of MACOS combined with the endless ways to be productive, millions of tabs for browsing, dedicated keyboard, and full fledged Mac App Software you would be far more productive vs having to find work arounds to do basic things not easily completed on ipad os in its current form. Wwdc is coming soon which is rumored to bring better software on par with mac os for ipad os but thats a shot in the dark. With that said ipad is super fast, portable, and extremely convenient as well as a joy to use for consumption which is just as important as being productive as a student.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. That depends on what you plan to do with it. For general note taking and accessing the web it is awesome, but perhaps a bit overkill. I would recommend the iPad Air 4 if that is all you are doing. If you are doing more than that it would depend on your major and what you need to do day to day. For example I am a music teacher and I can do 90% of what I need on my iPad. Email and web resources are great but there is no way for me to writing marching band drill for my high school so there are still some times that I need my laptop.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can pick up the MacBook Air (M1) model for $949 when on sale. This may be a wiser investment, unless you plan on taking advantage of touch screen apps that can only be used on an iPad. If money is not a factor, I’d get a iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard. More fun to be had, ease of use.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would say no, get a MacBook Air. iPads are great for media consumption, but for productivity they cannot beat a Macbook. MacBooks can do far more and are far more compatible with different programs/systems your professors might want you to use. You will get far better battery life on a MB air, a better keyboard, a better trackpad, more ports, etc. The only caveat would be if you are an art major and want to draw with the Magic Pencil, that is the only thing the iPad can do that the Macbook cannot. Also an iPad with the Keyboard case will cost you more than the MacBook Air.
