“bought some AirPods from Amazon, paired fine to my iPhone but in my settings the AirPods had no information. If i bought them directly from Apple I'd be able to go to my Bluetooth in settings & see information about the AirPods. will these let me do that?”

The ones from amazon might’ve been counterfeit then unfortunately, these absolutely let you go to the settings and change stuff. You should only have to go to the bluetooth tab and then find the device and click the cog or information button next to the device name. (Note: you can only change the device settings while the device is connected.)
