Only difference between generations are wireless charging CASE. The earbuds on both generations technically come with wireless charging for the earbuds them self. But when they promote the item as “wireless charging” they are referring to the case itself being able to be dropped on a charging pad and the device as a whole will charge like that instead of physically connecting a lightning cable to the case. Hope this helps clarify the confusions or uncertainty on the device description

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The AirPods are the same for both generations. The cases/charging methods are different. 1st Generation charges by connecting the rapid iPhone charger through the bottom of the case. 2nd generation charges both with the charger and with wireless charging. (AirPods can be placed on wireless charger and will charge this way as well.) The newest AirPods that look completely different—are noise cancelling and much more expensive.
