I have the iPhone 11 pro max and I had no problems connecting my air pods. I am able to see my air pods when I click on blue tooth in settings on my phone. They also connect to my apple watch series 5

Yes they are compatible. Make sure any updates are completed with the airpods if you have not done one in a while.
