“We have connected the Apple TV to our LG smart tv. From what I’m reading, the Apple Home speakers will pair nicely with Apple TV. But what about when I’m watching through the Apps on the LG tv for certain things. Will the speakers pair up with the tv then”

Homepod links via Airplay to the Apple TV, not the LG, so if you have not already figured it out, you'll get the audio from the Apple TV and not the LG. Now most popular apps on the LG are already on the Apple TV, so unless there is an App on the LG that you use routinely that isn't, you should be able to use the Apple TV and HomePod for most viewing.

Great quality sound in a very compact system.
