I don't know about weight, but pics are easy to upload. There is an adapter to buy, from Apple, that the chip goes in and plugs into the iPad. As soon as you plug it in, it automatically uploads the pics and let's you choose which to keep, and whether you want to leave originals on the chip or clear it. It generally looks like that in the attached pic, although that may not be the exact adapter. Just ask at Apple store, Best Buy, etc.
