The ipad 6th series is a ipad pro 9.7 inch version of the ipad which can utilize the apple pencil and has a faster chip set than the air. the air is a smaller version 9.7 of the ipad and lighter but does not utilize the apple pencil and the apple smart keyboard like the pro's do.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I am replacing a 1st generation iPad air. In short, the gen 6 iPad is faster and compatible with the 1st gen apple pencil. You can compare specs online. Gen 6 is fast enough to run Excel smoothly with a blue tooth keyboard, which is why I made the move. Size is close, if not the same. My new ipad uses the same screen protector. I assume that the new iPad air (just released) is noticeably more powerful than the 6, but also much more expensive.
