“Hi! I don't have a phone. A friend of mine was saying that this was basically a iphone but bigger. Is this true or do you have to connect an iphone to this to use the apple apps? Thanks”

I have an iPhone 7 so my iPad does act as a phone to. You don’t have to have an iPhone to use apple apps on the I pad. The iPad is a separate tablet on its own. It’s up to you if you have an iPhone to sync them if you want to. You don’t have to.
