No. You can purchase the unlocked cellular version and add service at a later date. There is a list of providers that an unlocked version is compatible with. There is a code on the back of the box that your provider can type in to ensure that the model is compatible with their service.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I didn’t have to activate a plan. I purchased the iPad with WiFi + cellular fully unlocked. You can use the WiFi freely right out of the box, but to use the cellular you will need to purchase a plan with a carrier. Hope this helps.
