Having a line with Verizon for a specified amount of time isn’t what matters for carriers, it depends on if you have an active installment plan on your current phone with them. If you do, you can pay it off to upgrade to this phone. If you don’t then you are good to go on the upgrade with Verizon. If you have an installment but want to get it anyway you have options you just have to reach out to Verizon to see what they offer for this.
