I'm not sure about activation fee. Upgrade fee (existing customer changing phone) is $40. Call Verizon and ask about fees. BTW, if you buy monthly, you get hit with all sorts of taxes and surcharges - Best Buy will charge you tax on the full price of the device, and Verizon adds monthly county and state sales taxes. You are essentially paying taxes twice!
