“Hey, I’m from the UK and my brother lives out in the US. He has kindly bought me this laptop to use for my Masters studies. Will I run into any issues using this laptop in the U.K.? The only thing that sprung to mind was the charger and different sockets”

You shouldn’t have any issues with using it in the UK, and as far as the connector issues you can always buy an adapter to get what you need.
