When your Mac restarts and asks for a password with your name and icon, that is typically asking for your Mac user account password — the one you set up during initial setup to sign into macOS. It is not necessarily your Apple ID password (the one you use for the App Store or iCloud). If you can’t remember the laptop login password, you can reset it from another administrator account or by following Apple’s instructions for resetting a Mac login password. If you repeatedly enter the wrong one, the hint should appear or you can follow Apple Support steps to reset it.If the prompt truly appears to be requesting your Apple ID (for example to sign into iCloud), make sure you are entering your Apple ID email and password exactly, and try again on a stable Wi-Fi connection. If you’ve forgotten your Apple ID password, Apple offers an account recovery process that can take a few days to complete securely.
