Purchase the air. the air will allow for better documentation work and spreadsheet work. the air is very good for a science major because of all of the papers you have to read/write. another thing to keep mind is the video graphics and the color detail. the air is simple and basic for what you need while the pro is more for looking at a video or editing some sort of photography, as wel as a higher processing power in most models for the editing capabilities. the air is much more affordable and overall more student friendly.
