“Does this require a subscription in order for it to remain functional for more than a year? I've had an older Mac with Linux OS for 4 years, but need portability. I'm not fond of the idea of paying $ every year to keep things functional.”

The seller provides a 1 year functional warranty. Please contact Best Buy Customer Service for the extended warranty and if you require a subscription to get it.
