• If you are getting the adapter that is made for your MacBook, then no. This allows you to use an older power adapter with your MacBook.

• No this is for converting the old MagSafe to the recent model. I convert my 85w power supply for 13 year old MB Pro to a 5 year old Retina MB Pro.
