Getting a stylus in general would help with that. This particular device has a great feel and balance to it. However, depending on your wife's iPad it may not be fully compatible... Getting a screen protector helps as well, especially a well made matte protector. Tempered glass may smudge as easily as bare screen but tend to be even easier to clean than without one.

I won’t work with all games the way she might like. You still are going to need your fingers for some apps.
