• The 2nd generation is the newest pen. It’s all one piece and magnetically attaches to the iPad to charge. The original pen has the cap on the end that you take off to plug into the older iPads to charge the pin in the charging port of the iPad. Here is what the 2nd gen pen works with from the apple site Compatible with iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd and 4th generation) iPad Pro 11-inch (1st and 2nd generation)
