It is only a case for the front of your iPad. You would need to get a rear case if you wanted to protect the back of your iPad from getting scratched up.

This keyboard is thin and lightweight also folds to cover the front screen of your iPad. And it also folds flat to the back to use the iPad as a regular tablet. The back of your tablet is still exposed to the elements. I suggest also adding a hard case backing to protect the back of your tablet. The first image of this item does not match the named item. First image is a wireless/bluetooth Apple keyboard for iMacs and also other Apple devices. I recommend the keyboard for iPad if you do a lot of typing for reports or reviews. This review is currently being completed using the iPad Pro keyboard on the 12.9 Pro tablet (2017).
