No, it's automatic. Just have cables that plug in correctly in the path you choose and it should work.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you really need a tb2 male connector you need a whole different adapter, not sure Apple makes that one.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You would need a TB3 device; plug this adapter into that, and a TB2 cable (which would plug into the other end of this adapter on one end and your computer on the other).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The port/cable ends on the adapter are exactly the opposite. On the Thunderbolt 2 end (which is female), a Thunderbolt 2 male to Thunderbolt 2 male cable would work. Then on the other (USB-C female port) end, you could use a USB-C barrel (USB-C female on both ends of the adapter). May be referred to as a USB-C gender changer.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This plug has a female Thunderbolt 1-2 and a male Thunderbolt 3. I was able to use my existing Thunderbolt 1-2 cable from older Mac to connect my Thunderbolt 3 device without any additional devices. My purpose was for an external RAID direct attached storage. I haven’t had any issues for bidirectional usage of data transfer.
