“I just bought an Apple USB-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter for use with an iMac. But now I've lost the ability to adjust volume and tone with the knobs on my Klipsch speakers. What caused the change? What's the fix? Thanks.”

It's intended for headphones, not speakers. Different impedance.
