• Yes, the USB-C to 3.5 mm female adaptor does work with headphones that have a microphone built in. Works with the headphones that came with iPhones and I have also tried the adaptor with a set of Skull Candy over the ears headphones that sport a microphone, too. I have the iPad Pro 11 inch with USB-C port.
