I have it with a 6 but I did have to do the required update. It did not damage my battery though

I would upgrade because those rumors are true, I had a phone running the same iOS and the battery usually lasted about 2 days, but once the Apple Watch was paired it lasted a good 8 hours at most. But putting it on my iPhone X didn’t affect th battery life at all. And it wouldn’t affect it on an iPhone 7 Plus either.

I tried to avoid the devil’s update but it won’t let you connect the watch unless the phone is updated to the latest version of IOS. I have the 7+ and haven’t seen any issues other than the ghost mail notifications which has always been around in my experience.
